Arnolfini Exhibition – Still I Rise

There’s an interesting exhibition on at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol documenting resistance movements in the context of gender politics + perspectives. The exhibition is intensely varied but one exhibit that stood out was self-taught architect, Alice Constance Austin, whose design for a city of 10,000, Llano del Rio, from c. 1916 are particularly interesting.

Austin considered the single-family house to be one of the greatest obstacles to improving the position of women in society and reimagined how both a dwelling and a city might be reshaped / reimagined in response to such. An interesting moment in a great exhibition – check it out if you can!
